The word Reiki comes from two Japanese kanji, Rei meaning spiritual wisdom and Ki meaning life force energy, often referred to as chi or prana in other cultures. Reiki can be defined as a spiritually guided life force energy that flows through the practitioner’s hands to the client. Usui Reiki is the methodology that was developed in Japan in the 1920’s by a man named Mikao Usui. He had a passion for esoteric healing and sought to create a compassionate method to share with all people. Since its creation, Usui’s system Reiki Ryoho has spread throughout the world as a powerful healing modality that is used to heal, purify and harmonize the energies within and around us. Usui himself was Buddhist, although no particular religious beliefs are needed to benefit from Reiki. It is my belief that Reiki is healing energy that comes from God and is available to everyone.
A Reiki practitioner can balance and recharge you by lightly touching your fully clothed body as you relax on a massage table, usually starting at the head and working down to the feet. Reiki is deeply soothing and relaxing to receive as it eases stress, tension and pain. While Reiki is not a replacement for modern medicine it can be a complimentary treatment. Reiki and other alternative medicine treatments have been linked to alleviating the nausea associated with chemotherapy and the pain incurred from surgeries. Reiki has been linked to alleviating the symptoms associated with Mesothelioma lung cancer chemotherapy and the pain incurred from the constant surgeries.
